As we free the physical body, expand the heart, and quiet the analytical mind, movement becomes a doorway into trance.
The dance deepens. The ego softens, then dissolves. Following the body’s wisdom, we move beyond effort and identity, beyond the thinker and the doer.
What remains is pure presence. We disappear into ecstasy— and become the dance itself.
Embodied Soul—Awakening the Energy Body is a weekend journey with Bernadette Ryder through 5Rhythms®, exploring embodied energy and its capacity to carry us into ecstasy.
In her book Maps to Ecstasy (1989), Gabrielle Roth revealed a pathway for awakening soul energy—bringing body, heart, and mind into living alignment.
In daily life, body, heart, and mind often work at odds: the thinking brain demanding, the body tired or restless, emotions muted or overwhelming.
The life energy that animates us is not just poetic—it is literal. Every sensation, impulse and movement arises from living currents of bioelectric energy moving through the nervous system.
When we dance with focused attention, we amplify this charge. Rhythm, breath, and movement open the flow.
Energy pulses. The senses sharpen. Emotions awaken and find expression. The mind quiets.
As communication between body, heart and mind is restored, these energies come into coherence and we enter trance.
First the ego falls away—then we disappear into the dance, and the gateways to universal energies open.
This is Embodied Soul—the energy body that remembers ecstasy.
“Energy moves in waves, Waves move in patterns,
Patterns move in rhythms,
A human being is just that – energy, waves, patterns, rhythms.
Nothing more. Nothing less.
A dance.”

5Rhythms is both a very ‘free’ individual practice which offers significant permission – while simultaneously being a group/community practice which calls for consideration and respect for the group process.
“Do you have the discipline to be a free spirit?” – Gabrielle Roth
This is a meditation/embodiment practice which has clear boundaries which need to be honoured if the full potential of this work is to be achieved:
