    About 5Rhythms Sweats

    5Rhythms Sweat logo

    SWEAT, is the free flow format of the 5Rhythms wave. It is a self exploration, a personal expression, your own dance, guided by the music & supported by the rhythms. No instructions, back to your body and the movement meditation at its pure essence. A 5Rhythms Sweat begins with a gentle warm-up and demonstration followed by an unguided Wave where the music moves you and your body is the teacher.

    No need for any experience, just book online and come along. That said, especially if it’s your first time, do check out the ‘Further Details’ section below.

    This Sweat is offered as part of the 5Rhythms Teacher Training mentorship program. Jon Ralls is mentored by Ajay Rajani (for Sweats) and Bernadette Ryder (overall)*

    Production credits:
    Many thanks to Dan for unwavering practical and emotional support for all Sweats, and to Positive Living WsM for Sunday Sweats – finding the venue, ongoing practical support, and running the by-donation café at the end.

    See also 5Rhythms Global website:

    * Disclaimer:
    Jon Ralls is profoundly grateful to Bernadette Ryder for her generosity in offering this website space, inclusion in her promotional emails etc, and use of her online booking facilities (purely as a conduit). The Sweats themselves are offered solely and independently by Jon Ralls, 5Rhythms Teacher in Training. No liability whatsoever attaches to Bernadette Ryder and In-Rhythm in connection with these Sweats. While advertised through In-Rhythm media channels, and all bookings and other contracts relating to these Sweats are with him alone. Jon Ralls has specialist class 3 (student) professional liability insurance cover through Balens Insurance Brokers.

    General information applicable to all our classes and workshops:
    (click/tap on heading to expand)

    5Rhythms is both a very ‘free’ individual practice which offers significant permission – while simultaneously being a group/community practice which calls for consideration and respect for the group process.

    Bring & wear

    • Loose clothing in which to move freely, and have a good sweat! – layers are good;
    • Something warm to put on or wrap round you when not dancing;
    • A water bottle;
    • Your curiosity!
      also…
    • Please don’t wear any kind of fragrance – the dance is an environment that heightens allergies and other sensitivities.
    • For safety, bags, valuables etc may be brought into the hall/studio.

    Some dos & don’ts

    • FEET:
      Many find bare feet easy and comfortable – some prefer Dance Sneakers which prevent sore feet and give support to arches, knees and ankles;
    • Other shoes are not recommended: trainers have too much grip so are hard on knees.
    • Don’t dance in socks – they slip too easily!

    “Do you have the discipline to be a free spirit?” – Gabrielle Roth

    This is a meditation/embodiment practice which has clear boundaries which need to be honoured if the full potential of this work is to be achieved:

    • Don’t use phones/tablets, even on silent – if you need to check on a babysitter or something, take devices outside the hall/studio (or, at Horfield, outside the building) and check them there.
    • Don’t talk – words take us straight back into our heads!
    • Arrive on time – the warm-up, including the initial ‘unguided’ warm-up is an important part of the process. The doors will be locked and there is no admittance 15 minutes after the start.
    • Stay until the end both for yourself, and for the group – if you leave early you will disrupt the collective energy and your own process will be incomplete.

      FAQ: 'Bookwhen' booking system

      It’s pretty self-explanatory (and more reliable), but please note:

      It’s not ‘required’, but if you do, you can then view / transfer / cancel your own bookings online 🙂 You’ll be offered the option to create an account during booking.
      (Existing accounts could not be transferred from the old system, for security & privacy reasons – sorry.)

      Click the ‘View booking’ button in your confirmation email, log in if necessary, and then you can:

      • until noon on the day:
        Transfer to another date (up to 4 weeks ahead); or
      • until 24 hours before:
        Cancel, and contact Jon to request:
        • a ‘credit’ code to use for a future booking (no fee), or
        • a refund (less £2.50 admin fee)the default if I don’t hear!

      After clicking [Book now] you enter details of attendees first, then assign them to the appropriate class(es). Thus, if someone is attending more than one (likely!), you only need to enter their contact details once 🙂

      If you have any issues making your booking – Email Jon or call/text 07970 069 256 – we can troubleshoot and/or, if necessary, just book you in manually! Thank you – looking forward to dancing with you soon!
